Seagoe, Armagh

Seagoe is an urban area in the north-east of Portadown, County Armagh. It is within the townlands of Seagoe Lower and Seagoe Upper, in the civil parish of Seagoe. The current Seagoe parish Church of St Gobhan (C of I), dedicated in 1814, is the latest in a series of churches here, reputed to date back to the founding of a church by St Gobhan in the early 7th century. The ruins of the previous church, dating from 1660, lie in the old graveyard north of the present church. Seagoe Old School (1859) is opposite the current church. Seagoe Lower and Seagoe Upper townlands remained largely rural until the mid 20th century. Since then Seagoe Upper townland has been developed for housing. Much of Segoe Lower townland has been developed for industrial estates. The area is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
