Scotswood, Northumberland

Scotswood is a former village which is now an urban area in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. Scotswood grew during the industrial revolution, alongside the Scotswood Colliery and Scotswood Shipbuilding Yard. The Scotswood Bridge, which was known as the Chain Bridge, was the first bridge to be built over the Tyne in the industrial era. It opened in 1831 and was in use until 1967. Scotswood is within the council area of Newcastle upon Tyne.
