Scotney Castle, Sussex

Scotney Castle (aka Scotney new Castle) is a grand 19th-century country house with formal gardens, located alongside the River Bewl in Sussex. Scotney Old Castle, the ruins of a mediæval, moated manor house, lies on an island on a small lake. The lake is surrounded by sloping, wooded gardens, at the top of which stands Scotney New Castle (1835-1843), designed by Anthony Salvin. It is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Tunbridge Wells (Kent).
