Sawcliffe, Lincolnshire
Sawcliffe is a deserted mediæval village near Roxby, Lincolnshire, in the Parts of Lindsey. The monument includes the buried and earthwork remains of the mediæval village of Sawcliffe and the earthworks of a moated site and later house and garden features, all located to the south and west of Sawcliffe Farm. Sawcliffe was named in the Domesday as 'Saleclif'. Sawcliffe appears to have been badly affected by the Black Death, being granted over 50 per cent relief from taxation in 1354. It is believed to have been reduced to a single farm by 1600. The site is within the council area of North Lincolnshire.
