Sarre Wall, Kent
Sarre Wall is the earthwork remains of a causeway, dating from around 1485, across the silted up Wantsum Channel connecting mainland Kent to the Isle of Thanet. The Sarre Wall runs in an angled course across the silted up bed of the old Wantsum Channel from the end of the ridge of high ground on the mainland at Wall End to the corresponding ridge on Thanet at Sarre. It is a broad causeway averaging about 45ft in width and 3ft in height with a drainage ditch on either side. Its present dimensions and appearance are undoubtedly the result of modification to carry the main Canterbury-Thanet road (A28). It is within the council area of Canterbury (Kent).
