Sandal Castle, Yorkshire
Sandal Castle is a ruined mediæval castle in Sandal Magna, Yorkshire, in the West Riding. The castle began as a motte-and-bailey castle in the early 12th century. During the 13th century the keep, curtain wall and other buildings were rebuilt in stone. It fell into ruin after a Civil War seige. Shakespeare's play Henry VI, Part 3 (Act 1, Scene 2) is set in Sandal Castle. The site is within the council area of Wakefield.
