Salmonsbury Camp, Gloucestershire
Salmonsbury Camp is the remains of Iron Age fortified settlement near Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire. The fortified site covers an area of around 55 acres and lies on a gravel terrace between the Rivers Dikler and Windrush. The camp is rectilinear in form and defended by a double rampart, each bank having an external ditch. These defences survive as earthworks up to 6ft high on the north, east and south sides of the enclosure. Excavations have revealed evidence for pre-Iron Age, Iron Age and Roman occupation of the camp. It is within the council area of Cotswold (Gloucestershire).
