Salmestone Grange, Kent

Salmestone Grange is a former monastic grange near Margate, Kent. It was founded by the monks of St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury during the 12th century. The grange operated as the administrative centre for part of their large, mainly arable, estate then covering most of the Isle of Thanet. The Refectory was built about 1320 and was converted into a farmhouse in the 17th century. The chapel, still in use, was consecrated in 1326 and is of knapped flint and rubble and has a crown post roof. The site is within the council area of Thanet (Kent).
