Salisbury Cathedral (formally the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is a Church of England cathedral in Salisbury, Wiltshire. It is the seat of the Bishop of Salisbury. The cathedral, regarded as one of the leading examples of Early English Gothic design, was built between 1220 and 1258. It has a unity and coherence unusual in mediæval English cathedrals. The tower and spire were completed by 1330. The spire, at 404 feet, is the tallest in England. Thye cathedral is within the council area of Wiltshire.
