Ryhope, Durham
Ryhope is a coastal village in County Durham. It is to the south of Sunderland, of which it forms a suburb. Once an agricultural village, the opening of a colliery in 1859 extended the village west toward the area of Tunstall, creating two distinct areas of Ryhope; the 'Village' and the 'Colliery'. The older village section is centred on a triangular 'green', which contains a war monument. It is within the council area of Sunderland.
