Rutherglen, Lanarkshire
Rutherglen is a town in Lanarkshire, immediately south-east of Glasgow. Rutherglen received the status of Royal Burgh in 1126 by Royal Charter from King David I. Rutherglen was a centre of heavy industry, having a long coal mining tradition, though nowadays the town is primarily a suburb of Glasgow. The town is within the council area of South Lanarkshire.
