Rufus Castle, Dorset

Rufus Castle (aka Bow and Arrow Castle) is a partially ruined 15th-century Blockhouse overlooking Church Ope Cove on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. The name 'Rufus Castle' has been widely used since the late 18th century, reflecting the view that the castle was first built by William II. The castle was rebuilt between 1432 and 1460, by Richard, Duke of York, and much of what remains today dates from this time. Built on a pinnacle of rock, some of the original structure has been lost to erosion. It is within the council area of Dorset.
