Rowallan Castle, Ayrshire
Rowallan Castle is a mediæval castle standing on the banks of the Carmel Water near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. It is thought to date from the 13th century. In the 16th century it was transformed into a Renaissance mansion with the development of an impressive gatehouse range with paired round towers. It is within the council area of East Ayrshire.
