Rothesay (Scottish Gaelic: Baile Bhòid) is the principal town on the Isle of Bute and the county town of Buteshire. Rothesay stands in the middle of the Isle of Bute's east coast, in a natural harbour around which the town has grown. It is the island's main ferry port. The town is characterised by its jaunty seaside houses from its 1930's heyday. It possesses a classic Victorian seafront façade with a promenade and pier. Rothesay is within the council area of Argyll and Bute.
