Rotherham, Yorkshire

Rotherham is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. It stands on the River Don, where the Don meets the River Rother. Rotherham was founded in the early Middle Ages. Traditional industries included farming, glass making and flour milling. Later, Rotherham became known for its coal mining and steel industries. Rotherham Minster dates from the 15th century and was described by Pevsner as "the best perpendicular church in the country". The town is within the council area of Rotherham.
