Robin Hood's Picking Rods, Derbyshire
Robin Hood's Picking Rods is a wayside and a boundary marker located in the north-western gritstone moorlands of the Peak District, Derbyshire. The monument includes two cross shafts set into a single socketed socle (base), together with components of the cross heads which now lie embedded in the ground round the foot of the socle. The socle comprises a massive, rough-hewn gritstone block. The columns were possibly once part of a Mercian cross. It is thought that originally there was only one column here, however, that was broken in two and then set as they look today. According to local tradition Robin Hood bent his bow between the Rods. It is within the council area of High Peak (Derbyshire).
