Ring Chesters, Northumberland

Ring Chesters (aka Elsdon Burn Camp) is an Iron Age hillfort in Northumberland. It is situated about a mile from the Roxburghshire border near the hamlet of Hethpool, seven miles west of Wooler. It is characterised by having triple ramparts of earth and stone which enclose an oval shaped hill top of nearly an acre, with the main enclosure containing a number of stone built prehistoric structures and earlier timber buildings. There are entrances to the north-west and south-east, the southern one being staggered. The views from the top are fully 360 degrees, and it is possible to see the North Sea to the north-east in good visibility. It is within the council area of Northumberland.
