Richmond, Yorkshire

Richmond is a market town in Yorkshire, in the North Riding. It lies on the River Swale. Richmond Castle, overlooking the Swale, was constructed from 1071. The Georgian Theatre, founded in 1788 by the actor, Samuel Butler, is just off the market place. Richmond's picturesque appearance and historic buildings have made it a popular film and television location. The town is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
