Rathgael (aka Rathgill) is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the south of Bangor, County Down. It is within the townland of Rathgill, in the civil parish of Bangor. Until the 1960s, the townland of Rathgill remained almost entirely rural, apart from the 18th-century Rathgill House (aka Rathgeal house) and the hamlet of Rathgill (aka Rathgeal) along the road to Newtownards. Rathgael House was demolished in the 1960s, the area first becoming part of a school and later an extension to the Helen's Wood housing estate. The housing of the hamlet made way for suburban housing along the Newtownards Road (A2). The area is within the council area of Ards and North Down.
