Portswood, Hampshire

Portswood is a former manor and village that is now a suburb of Southampton, Hampshire. The Manor of Portswood was first named in a charter dating from 1045. Giles Stibbert built the first Portswood House on the estate in 1771. The estate was sold off from the end of the 19th century and the area developed as a suburb. It is within the council area of Southampton.
