Portstewart, Londonderry

Portstewart is a seaside resort town in County Londonderry. It is within the townlands of Mullaghacall North, Tullaghmurry East, Tullaghmurry West, Galvally, South Mullaghacall, Garrylaben, Cappagh Beg and Cappagh More, in the civil parish of Ballyaghran. Portstewart was founded in 1792 by John Cromie and named after his ancestors, the Stewarts of Ballylesse. Under the influence of the Crombie family, it developed into a popular holiday destination for Victorian middle-class families. Its harbour and scenic coastal paths form an Atlantic promenade leading to the two-mile long Portstewart Strand. The town is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
