Portslade-By-Sea, Sussex

Portslade-By-Sea is a town in Sussex. It lies on the coast to the south of Portslade Village. It grew rapidly after the opening of Portslade station in 1840. From 1898-1974, for local government purposes, it was the basis of Portslade-by-Sea urban district. It is now sometimes considered a western suburb of Hove. Portslade Town Hall (1928) was designed by Gilbert Murray Simpson in the Neo-Georgian style. The town is within the council area of Brighton and Hove.
