Portrack, Durham / Yorkshire

Portrack is a large industrial and business in the east of Stockton-on-Tees, lying partly in County Durham and partly in Yorkshire. The Portrack Cut (1831) cut off a large northern meander in the River Tees which means that the county border departs from the modern course of the Tees here. Portrack Grange, from which the area is named, lay on the north (County Durham) bank of the Tees. The Portrack Marshes part of the industrial estate lies south of the old course of the Tees in Yorkshire (in the North Riding). Portrack is within the council area of Stockton-on-Tees.
