Portavogie, Down

Portavogie is a fishing village, lying on the east coast of the Ards Peninsula in County Down. It is within the townland of Portavogie, in the civil parish of St Andrews. The townland of Portavogie was sparsely populated until the mid 19th century. The village grew quickly after the construction of St Andrews Harbour in the 1850s. The harbour was significantly expanded and improved in 1955 and again in 1985. The village remains a major fishing port, famous for its prawns. The village is within the council area of Ards and North Down.
