Portaferry House, Down

Portaferry House is a Georgian country mansion, located within an extensive demesne near Portaferry, County Down. It is within the townland of Ballymurphy, in the civil parish of Ardquin. The demesne dates from land granted to Patrick Savage by Charles I in 1628. The oldest part of the present house (the central and eastern portion of the main block) was built by Andrew Savage around 1750. The west wing was added around 1790. The house assumed its present form in 1818-20, when the front façade was remodelled, the grand stairwell added and the east wing largely rebuilt, all to designs by William Farrell. The house is within the council area of Ards and North Down.
