Port Clarence, Durham
Port Clarence is a village in County Durham. It lies on the north bank of the River Tees at the County Durham end of the Middlesbrough Transport Bridge. The port developed to provide colliery owners with better access to the North Sea than was available from Stockton-on-Tees. The village, previously known as Samphire Batts, was renamed following a visit by the Duke of Clarence. It is within the council area of Stockton-on-Tees.
