Plymstock, Devon
Plymstock is a town in Devon, lying across the River Plym from Plymouth, of which is sometimes now considered a suburb. Plymstock is listed in Domesday as 'Plemestocha'. Until the 20th century, Plymstock remained a rural village within the ancient parish from which it is named. The western parts of the parish saw large-scale suburban development before and after the Second World War as the area increasingly became a dormitory area for Plymouth. Development has continued since the area was brought within the Plymouth municipal area in 1967. Plymstock has now effectively become a sizeable suburban town encompassing not just the original village but several other former villages and hamlets. The town is within the council area of Plymouth.
