Petts Wood, Kent
Petts Wood is a large suburban village in Kent. Most of the suburb was built from the late 1920s by the Harlow-based developer Basil Scruby, the intention being to create a high quality estate in a rural setting. Scruby paid the Southern Railway Company to open a station in 1928. St Francis’s church was built in 1935. The eponymous wood survives and contains a memorial to Wiliam Willett, thought to have come up with the idea of daying saving time while riding there. The village is within the council area of Bromley.
