Perry Barr, Staffordshire

Perry Barr is a suburban area, to the north of Handsworth, in Staffordshire. Perry Barr was the northern part of the ancient manor of Handsworth, lying on rising ground north-east of the River Tame. It later became the parish of Handsworth (Perry Barr). It remained a rural area until well into the 20th century. For local government purposes, from 1894-1928, the parish was the basis for Perry Barr urban district. Most of the area became part of the municipal area of Birmingham in 1928 following which it saw large-scale housing development, in time becoming seen as a northern suburb of Birmingham. Perry Hall Park is the former site of Perry Hall, demolished in 1927, though the hall's moat remains. Perry Barr is within the council area of Birmingham.
