Pentonville is a metropolitan district lying to the north-west of Clerkenwell, Middlesex, forming a northern suburb of London. The area, part of the ancient parish of Clerkenwell, was developed from the 1770s by Captain Henry Penton, MP for Winchester. The area is within the council area of Islington.
