Penrose, Cornwall

Penrose is a historic estate and 17th-century country house near Porthleven, Cornwall. Penrose was held by the Penrose family pre-1269. The estate grew as a result of various grants of land and inheritances some of which resulted from marriages linking the Penroses with other leading Cornish families. The 17th-century country house (Penrose House, aka Penrose Manor House) was constructed for the Penrose family, probably for John Penrose (died 1679) and has been altered and extended several times since. Around 1771 it was boughT by Hugh Rogers, whose descendants still live at Penrose. The Tudor Gothic style Bath house was built in 1840 for John Rogers. The estate was gifted by the Rogers family to the National Trust in 1974. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
