Penheale Manor, Cornwall
Penheale Manor is a historic house near Egloskerry, Cornwall. The Jacobean manor, with a history stretching back to the Domesday Book of 1085, is noted for its distinctive architecture and gardens, which were extensively re-designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in the 1920s. The current manor house was built between 1620 and 1640 by the Specott family on a mediæval site. Its early 17th-century architecture includes a gatehouse and stables. There were alterations in the 18th century. In 1920, Captain Norman Colville purchased the derelict estate and commissioned renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens for an extensive restoration and redesign. Inspired by Lutyens' work at Castle Drogo, Colville added new wings to the house, including a four-story tower on the south range. The estate has remained in the Colville family since the 1920s. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
