Pendlebury is a town in Lancashire. Pendlebury was a village until the 19th century, after which it developed alongside the coal mining industry. Pendlebury saw extensive coal extraction from several collieries until the closure of Agecroft Colliery in the 1990s. For local government purposes, it was part of the Swinton and Pendlebury urban district from 1894, which became a municipal borough from 1934 until abolished in 1974. The Gothic style St Augustine's Church (1874) is widely regard as the finest work of its deisgner, George Frederick Bodley. The town is within the council area of Salford.
