MenuPen-y-Gwryd, Caernarfonshire
Pen-y-Gwryd is a historic inn at the junction of the A498 and the A4086 in Snowdonia, Caernarfonshire. Established as an inn by 1840, it assumed a prominent role in Snowdonia's growing mountaineering tourism particularly under the management of Harry Owen between 1847 and 1891. It was during his occupancy that the establishment acquiring much of its present architectural character. The main range - a hipped roofed, five-window range represented by the present front block, appears to date from the 1850s. This was extended and remodelled towards the end of the 19th century. Further extensions (including the former billiard room) were made in the early 20th century. It is within the council area of Gwynedd.
