Partington, Cheshire

Partington is a town in Cheshire. It stands on the south bank of the River Mersey (Manchester Ship Canal), opposite Cadishead. The completion of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 transformed Partington into a major coal-exporting port and attracted a range of other industries. Erlam Farmhouse dates from the late 18th century. The village stocks date from the 19th century. The town is within the council area of Trafford.
