Oswestry, Shropshire

Oswestry is a market town in Shropshire, close to the border with Denbighshire. Old Oswestry, on the northern edge of town, is one of the most spectacular and best preserved Iron Age hillforts in Britain. Oswestry Castle is a mediæval castle first recorded in 1086. Until the Laws in Wales Act 1535, Oswestry hundred formed part of various lordships in the Welsh Marches. The town is within the council area of Shropshire.
