Old Shoreham, Sussex

Old Shoreham is a former village that is now an urban area in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex. Old Shoreham lies on the left bank of the River Adur close to where it enters the English Channel. Old Shoreham is believed to be an Anglo-Saxon settlement. St Nicolas Church retains some Saxon-era elements. New Shoreham was founded to the south, at the river's mouth, in the 11th century. Old Shoreham remained a small village into the 20th century, during which it became part of the urban area of the modern town of Shoreham-on-Sea. Old Shoreham is within the council area of Adur (West Sussex).
