Old Lenton, Nottinghamshire
Old Lenton (formerly just Lenton) is a former village that is now an urban area in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It lies alongside the River Leen, from which its name derives. Originally an agricultural village, it became industrialised after the opening of the Nottingham Canal. Lenton became part of the municipal area of Nottingham in 1877. The area known as New Lenton was developed on agricultural land separate from the village. The 'Old' prefix was introduced to distinguish the original village from the new area. It is within the council area of Nottingham.
