Old Ford, Middlesex
Old Ford is an urban area in the north of Bow, south-east Middlesex. Old Ford developed, possibly in Roman times, as a small settlement around what was then the most downstream crossing point of the River Lea, i.e. before the building of the bridge at Bow c.1110. Old Ford remained a small hamlet until the 19th century during which it saw large-scale development as Bow saw industrial development. The area saw substantial redevelopment from the 1960s. The area is within the council area of Tower Hamlets.
