Old Chiswick, Middlesex

Old Chiswick is a former village that is now an urban area in Chiswick, Middlesex. As its name suggests, Old Chiswick was the original village, beside the Thames, from which the modern settlement grew. The village grew up around St Nicholas Church, founded c. 1181. The placename was first recorded c. 1000 as Ceswican ('Cheese farm'). The half-timbered former Burlington Arms dates from the 15th century.
