Old Castle Archdale, Fermanagh

Old Castle Archdale is a ruined early 17th-century castle in the townland of Bunaninver, County Fermanagh. These are the remains of a T-shaped house and bawn built for the English planter, John Archdale, on land granted in 1612. The castle was captured by Irish rebels and destroyed in 1641. It was rebuilt in 1665. In the late 18th century the Castle Archdale mansion was built to the south of the old castle, which then fell into decay. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Fermanagh and Omagh.
