Notting Hill, Middlesex

Notting Hill is a metropolitan district in Kensington, Middlesex. The area remained rural until the 1840s when landowner James Weller Ladbroke began to develop the Ladbroke Estate as a fashionable London suburb. The area is known for its communal garden squares to the rears of the properties. From around 1870, Notting Hill had an association with artists. From the 1950s the area became known for its significant immigrant populations. In the 21st century, Notting Hill has come to be seen as an affluent and fashionable area. The Notting Hill Carnival takes place each year over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The area is within the council area of Kensington and Chelsea.
