Notley Abbey, Buckinghamshire
Notley Abbey is a ruined 12th-century Augustinian abbey and country house near Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire. Notley Abbey was founded around 1560 by the second Earl of Buckingham, Walter Giffard and his wife, Ermengard. The monument includes the buried remains of the abbey church, conventual buildings and other features within the area of the inner precinct; a group of fishponds and leats; and a series of earthworks representing further buildings adjacent to the precinct. An elaborate 16th or early 17th century dovecote is situated on the hillside north of the abbey. Portions of the claustral range were retained within the house and outbuildings of a post-Dissolution farm - now Notley Abbey House (Historic England Grade I Listed 1213476). Notley Abbey House was the home of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh from 1944-1960. The monument is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
