Norton-in-the-Moors, Staffordshire
Norton-in-the-Moors is a suburban village in Staffordshire. It is listed in Domesday as 'Nortone'. During the Middle Ages the area developed due to its location on the road from Leek to Burslem. The Church of St Bartholomew dates from 1737. Norton remained a small village until the second half of the 20th century, since when it has seen substantial suburban development. The "Gateway of Norton le Moors" memorial is dedicated to the men, women and children who worked in the mining and ceramics industries. The village is within the council area of Stoke-on-Trent.
