Northenden, Cheshire
Northenden is a suburban village in Cheshire, lying on the south bank of the River Mersey. Northenden was mentioned as Norwordine in Domesday. Victorian and Edwardian developments, a period during which it became an attractive riverside township for Manchester's more affluent managers, give the village much of its present character. It was brought within the City of Manchester in 1931 and became suburbanised alongside the development of Wythenshawe to its south. It is within the council area of Manchester.
