Northam, Hampshire

Northam is a former industrial village that is now a suburb of Southampton, Hampshire. It lies on the River Itchen to the north of the original settlement of Hamtun, its name is believed to reflect this. It was a small settlement until the 18th century brought ship-building and related industries. The area was substantially redeveloped from the 1950s. It is within the council area of Southampton.
