North Meridian Markers, Armagh
The North Meridian Markers are 18th and 19th century scientific markers associated with Armagh Observatory, located in the townland of Tullyard, north of the town of Armagh, County Armagh. A stone arch with two pinnacles was built in the early 1790s, and a cast-iron obelisk on a stone base was added in 1864. These Northern Markers, together with a Southern Marker in the form of a pillar in Ballyheridan townland, provided stable reference points on the horizon for checking instruments in the Observatory. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
