North Greenwich, Kent

North Greenwich is an urban area in Greenwich, Kent. In the 21st century the name has come to refer to the peninsula on the south bank of the River Thames, opposite Blackwall, at the southern end of the Blackwall Tunnel. The area has also been known as Greenwich Marshes, East Greenwich and the Greenwich Peninsula. The adoption of the 'North Greenwich' name is largely due to the opening of the North Greenwich tube station in 1999. The area has been massively redeveloped since the late 20th century. The area should not be confused with southern tip of the Isle of Dogs in Middlesex which was historically also known as North Greenwich. It is within the council area of Greenwich.
