North Carlton Hall, Lincolnshire
North Carlton Hall is a country house in North Carlton, Lincolnshire, in the Parts of Lindsey. The mansion is Elizabethan, built with coursed rubble limestone with ashlar dressings. William Wildeker originally held the manor of North Carlton in the 13th century before it transferred to Barlings Abbey. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it was granted to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, and later sold to the Monson family. North Carlton Hall was established in the early 16th century and has undergone various renovations and refurbishments, particularly in the late 19th century. According to historical records, Henry VIII stayed at the Hall in 1541 while en route to Lincoln and knighted his host, John Monson, on the doorstep. Other historical features which are still evident include the undulations of the moat that surrounded the entire property, as well as some parts still accommodating water. It was much altered in the 19th century. It is within the council area of West Lindsey (Lincolnshire).
