Normanton, Yorkshire

Normanton is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. Normanton was originally surrounded by a moat, and in Norman times was the site of an enclosed settlement. The arrival of George Stephenson's North Midland Railway saw it become a railway and industrial town. Hanson House dates from the mid-15th century. All Saints Church dates from at least 1256 and is built in the perpendicular style. The town is within the council area of Wakefield.
